Vladimir Andreevich Nazarenko (1934-2006)

Outstanding nuclear physicist, general director of the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (PNPI of RAS), academician Vladimir Andreevich Nazarenko suddenly passed away on October 19 2006 in Gatchina.

He was born in Siberia on July 7, 1934. In 1958 Vladimir Nazarenko graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnical Institute and began his scientific activity in the branch of the famous Russian Physical Technical Institute named after A.F. Ioffe (since 1971 - the well known PNPI of RAS). Here he got his PhD (1966) and professor (1984) degrees.

His most important and well known scientific works were dedicated to the experimental investigations of the weak nucleon-nucleon interactions. These works as a very important milestone of nuclear and particle physics were commended with the Lenin Prize in the Science and Technology being the most prestigious reward in Russia.

During the last years of his life V.A Nazarenko paid great attention to the completion of construction of the Nuclear High Flux Reactor PIK which is considered as a main base for International Neutron Center of scientific investigations in fundamental and solid state physics.
